An armed gunman killed 12 and wounded 58 in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado just after midnight during an opening screening of the latest Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises”. The gunman has been identified as a 24-yearold dropout of a neuroscience PhD program at the University of Colorado, Denver. At the time of the shooting, the gunman used three weapons and undisclosed amount of ammunitions inside the theater and left another gun in the vehicle, all legally purchased. Apparently the gunman was wearing a body armor indicating this not a murder suicide. Immediately after the shooting, the gunman has been taken into custody. He made a court appearance since the shooting and will be charged for crimes committed shortly.
Since the shooting, additional information is being revealed of the massacre. It appears that the gunman has been planning the event for a long time.
Colorado and the nation are in mourning and the victims are being buried. There are renewed talks of some gun control due to the incident. As expected gun advocates including the National Rifle Association (NRA) object to any gun control measures and due to the looming presidential elections any substantive changes may not happen.
