Just over two years ago, “The Arab Spring” swept through the Arab world toppling centuries old regimes and establishing people’s power. Egypt was one of those countries just over two years ago people led uprising ousted its several decades old President, Hosni Mubarak and his regime and established a people elected government. Hosni Mubarak, members of his family and many associated with his regime are still on trial. However, many of the expectations of the Egypt’s uprising seem to be unattainable or running into deeper trouble disappointing its people.
Crimes including murders which are up 130 percent in 2012, robberies up 350 percent, and kidnapping up 145 percent. Illegal gun manufacturing is on the rise due to concerns over personal safety and is becoming a lucrative business for many. Extremist Islamists and secularists are still enforcing their own law and the government security forces including the police are finding it difficult to enforce the law due to lack of personal and other resources. Increase in crime results in less foreign investment in the country which is struggling to improve its economics. Hope things get better and the current government takes hold helping the young revolution succeed.
